Job Description:

The Parent Liaison creates a welcoming school environment for parents, conducts outreach to empower parents to be actively engaged in their children's education, and works with the principal to address parent issues and concerns at the school.

The Parent Liaison plans, coordinates and runs activities that increase parent knowledge of the curriculum and school expectations, consistently finds ways to engage second language and at risk families with the goal of increased parent involvement and a better understanding of their role, expectations, and the benefits of being a parent in a Title I school.

The Parent Liaison is supervised and evaluated by the School Principal/Administration with feedback provided by the Family and Community Engagement Center (FACE) staff.

  • Experience:
    • At least two years of professional experience working with community-based outreach program, schools and/or non-profits with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
    • Experience working with culturally diverse communities.

  • Dual language proficiency in Spanish, Arabic or Amharic or is strongly desired.

Essential Functions:

Creating a welcoming school environment for parents:
  • Send letter home in language(s) of parents introducing yourself and informing them of you role as Parent Liaison. Provide contact information and hours when you can be reached.
  • Post multilingual signs, bulletin boards and other displays at school entrance and/or lobby to welcome parents and provide information.
  • Work with bilingual parents and staff to ensure use of Language Line as needed.
  • Ensure necessary interpreter services are available at parent-teacher conferences, school meetings/activities and as requested.

Conducting outreach to empower parents to be actively engaged in their children's education:
  • Organize monthly events or activities (minimum of one/month) to support parent engagement in school (i.e., FACE-sponsored workshops such as navigating the school system, preparing for parent-teacher conferences, bullying prevention, mental health support, and supporting literacy at home, etc.)
  • Become trained facilitator of Parents as Educational Partners (PEP) and offer 12-week training educational program each fall.
  • Offer Parent Support Groups in cooperation with Student Support Staff.
  • Prepare outreach materials for distribution in language(s) of parents (i.e. flyers about upcoming activities, school calendar of events, available school/community resources, etc.).
  • Develop ongoing relationships with community-based and local faith-based organizations to share information about school and identify community resources.
  • Coordinate robo-calls to share important information with families in the languages they speak.
  • Survey parents on welcoming environment, parent involvement opportunities and perceived access to information/resources.
  • Stay abreast of information resources and support available to families and share with parents ways to support their children's learning at home.
  • Keep track of contact with parents.
  • Facilitate parent workshops and information sessions.
  • Attend PTA and parent support meetings.

Working with the principal to address parent issues and concerns at the school:
  • Serve as point of contact for parents.
  • Work with principal and other school staff, as needed, to address and resolve specific parent concerns.
  • Plan and implement activities to engage and inform parents on all aspects of the school curriculum, budget, Title I, School Improvement Plan, and their role in our success
  • Participate and supplement all schoolwide activities with modifications and supports that address the unique needs of our second language and at risk families

Annualized salary range: $28,385.28 - $34,928.64
