The Youth Initiatives programs provide trauma-informed holistic, multi-modal services that reduce family and community violence by intervening with at-risk youth and families experiencing multiple, complex needs related to their exposure to violence and / or their experience of immigration including the provision of home visiting and community-based mental health services for children, youth and families.  

The Youth Initiatives Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical and administrative oversight for the following Youth Initiatives Programs: the Violence Prevention and Intervention Program (VPIP), the Fairfax Family Reunification Program, and School Specific Groups. The Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical supervision towards LCSW licensure as well as clinical supervision for Licensed Professional Counselors and other non-licensed mental health counselors who provide mental health services through the Youth Initiatives programs. In addition, the Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical supervision towards licensure for eligible Master’s- level Youth Counselors. Essential Job Duties:

Staff Supervision and Development:

  • Identify and fulfill staffing needs; prepare and conduct timely staff performance evaluations; approve timesheets, leave and reimbursement requests, provide or arrange and schedule ongoing staff training to enable direct service staff to deliver client service effectively.
  • Supervise assigned program staff including regular individual and group staff meetings and case consultation; ensure proper client to staff ratio and monitor case files for quality and completeness.
    • Provide clinical supervision to mental health counselors which may be used towards LCSW licensure
    • Provide administrative supervision to mental health counselors pursuing LPC licensure and coordinate with LPC Clinical Supervisor
    • Provide clinical supervision to licensed mental health counselors (LCSW and LPC)
    • Provide clinical supervision to Youth Counselors eligible for LCSW licensure
  • Conduct regular and timely supervision according to established program guidelines.
  • Build and maintain a strong functional team through effective recruiting, training, coaching, feedback, team meetings, and team building.
  • Provide clinical support and consultation to YI Programs
  • Identify and work with Assistant Director on reviewing administrative areas that are affecting direct service providers, their work with clients, and the fiscal integrity of the program.
  • Provide basic supervisory training to senior staff in the areas of coaching and performance feedback, and case reviews.
  • Coordinate with other YI Program Supervisors regarding clinical supervision for youth counselors under their supervision.

Client Service Delivery:

  • Manage referrals, referral source follow up, waitlist, and case assignment
  • Assign cases to direct service staff, coordinate service delivery and day-to-day operations of the VPIP and Fairfax Family Reunification programs.
  • Monitor client cases from initial referral through discharge, promoting efficient and effective client services and administration procedures including adequate client record keeping, statistical and performance outcome reporting.
  • Participate in the design, planning, and implementation of workshops and group-based activities in collaboration with Assistant Director and direct service staff.
  • Coordinate group based services with schools to include planning, scheduling, monitoring, staffing, documentation, and outcomes.
  • Provide direct mental health services, case work, and group based services in the absence of direct service staff.
  • Review and sign off on group files to ensure compliance with grant requirements and best practices to ensure high quality documentation; to include review of screening forms, intakes, group notes, evaluations, and group closing summaries.

  • Develop or assist in the development of new program services.
  • Participate in contract renewals and funding applications within the scope of Agency goals and purposes as directed by Director; alert the Director of funding opportunities and assist in the development of new programs.

Compliance and Reporting Requirements:

  • Ensure that service delivery is performed according to and within the NVFS mission, policy/statewide directive/procedural directions/case management model, NVFS standards, and contractual/licensing requirements. Enter data for record keeping and reporting to meet federal/state/program guidelines.
  • Responsible for goals and objectives of contract for programs; includes NVFS outcomes and reporting.
  • Prepare narrative and statistical reports to the Agency, contract and grant monitors measuring program effectiveness; includes NVFS outcomes and reporting.
  • Coordinate monthly reporting process including: reviewing direct service staff’s submitted reports for accuracy and appropriateness; providing feedback to staff on their submitted reports to foster professional development of report writing skills; and ensuring that all final reports are submitted to the proper referral source within required time frames.

Meeting and Community Outreach/Resource Participation:

  • Represent NVFS externally, and participate in local/regional task forces and community partnership meetings as appropriate.
  • Conduct professional development / trainings for community stakeholders.
  • Act as liaison with community, civic, and business groups on behalf of program; participate in appropriate community task force committees; develop and monitor public relations within the scope of Agency mission and goals.
  • Participate effectively and positively in required Program and Agency meetings and trainings.

 Qualification and Additional Requirements:   

  • Master’s degree in social work with a clinical concentration.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker with an active, unrestricted license in Virginia and eligible to provide clinical supervision towards LCSW licensure in Virginia.
  • At least four (4) years related direct service experience providing trauma focused clinical services with youth and families, victims of sexual offenses, domestic violence or any other trauma survivors.
  • Experience providing services to immigrants from Central America.
  • Experience providing group based services.
  • At least one (1) year of home visiting experience.
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory experience, providing supervision to direct service providers.
  • Experience with data collection and reporting, ability to work as part of a team, and excellent written and oral communication skills required
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the impacts of trauma on individual and family functioning / knowledge of trauma-informed service delivery.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of gang dynamics required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the dynamics and issues facing immigrant youth and their families required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license; must be able to travel to client homes to provide services
  • Must be comfortable with undesirable home conditions
  • Successful completion of background checks required upon hire, including TB test
