The Pathology Support Technician will provide technical and/or administrative support for the Pathology department and/or gross rooms at various locations. The list below provides the essential functions and "principle duties and responsibilities" of the position. 1. Ensure and demonstrate commitment to patient safety when accepting specimens from internal hospital departments and external physician clients. Demonstrate the ability to work closely interdepartmentally with professional and clinical staff solving specimen handling issues, including incorrectly submitted specimens with emphasis on minimizing risk to patients.
2. Ability to meet high quality standards in regards to irretrievable nature of patient specimens.
3. Demonstrate proficient use of LIS system with high level of precision, i.e., Cerner, Copath, Word, Excel and other customized programs.
4. Demonstrate ability and proficiency to monitor and document instrumentation quality assurance records and participate in improvement initiatives.
5. Comprehend instrumentation variances on daily basis, trouble shoot equipment and other quality issues when appropriate.
6. Organizational and cleanliness skills are required to maintain patient specimen integrity. Ability to consistently demonstrate flexibility with multitasking by balancing clinical and administrative office skills while assisting Pathologist/PA production. Work independently, support training needs and perform additional duties/assignments as requested.
7. Associate is required to work in the morgue, pathology gross room and office. Additionally, associates are exposed to laboratory environment that include exposure to chemicals, infectious materials and biohazards.
8. Cross-train and assist in providing similar coverage at other locations as necessary.
9. Demonstrate compassion during interactions with patients, physicians, co-workers, and other staff.
10. Demonstrate problem solving abilities and seek out and perform additional tasks
11. Demonstrate a commitment to personal safety and the safety of all staff
12. Assist with compliance of all professional federal, state, and CAP requirements including all chemical waste management, safety and infection control policies.
13. Follow all AHC/CSM policies and procedures outlined in employee source book, general administrative SOPs to include specific department SOPs.

Work Schedule:

This is a variable part time FLOAT position . The candidate in this position will be trained to work at the following locations: Capital Choice Pathology laboratory, Shady Grove Medical Center, Washington Adventist Hospital, Prince Georges Hospital Center and Laurel Medical Center.

Candidate must be available Monday-Friday Day shift. Variable hours
