Responsibilities

As a(n) Staff Assistant within the Office of the Solicitor, Departmental Ethics Office, located in Washington, DC some of your specific duties will include:
  • Provides quality oversight of all administrative activities of the office, including assurance of compliance with governing regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable Department of the Interior, Office of the Solicitor and administrative policies, regulations and procedures, including coordination related to work performed by administrative staff.
  • Reviews and routes incoming correspondence to appropriate staff, and maintains correspondence tracking system.
  • Prepares transmittal letters, travel authorizations and vouchers, subject-matter files, administrative reports, briefings, and other administrative documents.
  • Develops, coordinates and disseminates administrative communication and work products to internal and external audiences including other offices within the Solicitor's Office, clients, members of private industry, and other organizations.
  • Oversees and maintains accountability for office resources including budget, supplies and equipment.
  • Oversees records management in accordance with the established office file management procedures.
  • Maintains the property inventory for the Departmental Ethics Office.
  • Assists in onboarding and off-boarding new office employees.
  • Manages calendar, travel and other engagements for the Director, Departmental Ethics Offices. Arranges domestic travel for the office staff by securing transportation and hotel reservations, preparing travel authorizations and vouchers, and preparing itinerary, ensuring that each traveler is aware of the documents necessary for approved travel and Government travel regulations.
  • Tracks, verifies and certifies time and attendance for office staff resolving discrepancies with appropriate contacts.
  • Researches and develops written products as requested.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one of the following to qualify for the GS-9 level:

--One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Example of GS-7 level work include composing material for a specific audience or distribution; planning and organizing moderately difficult activities with time-limited constraints; analyzing the impact of moderately complex problems on work activities.

--OR 2 full academic years of graduate level education or completion of all requirements for a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or completion of all requirements for a LL.B. or J.D. degree;

--OR 1-year of combined graduate education and experience as defined.

Applicants must possess one of the following to qualify for the GS-11 level:

--One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service, Examples may include interpreting and effectively communicating administrative policies, regulations or procedures to individuals; composing complex material for a specialized audience or broad distribution; and planning and organizing complex activities with time-limit constraints.
