Incumbent will serve as a Network Administrator in OISM for NIST in Gaithersburg, MD.

Satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical examination and drug test is required.

Responsibilities

Incumbent will serve as a Network Administrator in the IT Security and Networking Division of the Office of Information Systems Management (OISM) for the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, MD. Primary responsibility is to administer, support, optimize, and troubleshoot components of the NIST Boulder Physical Access Control System (PACS) Network and the NIST Gaithersburg Enterprise Network to ensure high levels of availability and security. This includes design, deployment and ongoing support of the enterprise cable plant, enterprise routing and switching, wireless, DNS, network access control, and network monitoring.

IT Specialist (Network Service) responsibilities include performing standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for related systems. Review system log messages regularly and address any abnormalities. Replace aging equipment as defined by a 5-year equipment refreshment plan. Perform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from error or outage. Review and deploy system releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices. Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on all systems.

Collaborate in the identification of critical requirements and information technology management practices, challenges, and solutions. The incumbent will participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with OISM goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirement.

This position will require the incombent to obtain and hold at TS/SCI security clearance at the expense of the Government.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Education:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

Experience: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. IT-related experience must demonstrate:

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to the basic requirements , Applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS 9 (ZP II at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience in performing network move/add/change tasks and configuring Cisco network equipment as well as experience in enterprise network administration.
