Coordinator of Residential Academic Engagment

Housing and Residence Life is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for the Coordinator of Residential Academic Engagement position. Housing and Residence Life (HRL) is a self-supporting auxiliary organization within the University Life unit of George Mason University. HRL serves a highly diverse population of approximately 6,200 students, the majority of which are undergraduates living in over 40 traditional, suite, and apartment-style residence halls in three campuses within the vibrant Northern Virginia area. HRL employs over 170 full-time and graduate staff members and over 350 undergraduate student staff members. The Coordinator of Residential Academic Engagement at George Mason University assists with the implementation and assessment of all living learning communities and serves as a liaison for the faculty and staff who work with the individual learning communities. The Coordinator for Residential Academic Engagement is responsible for collaborating with academic partners to identify the needs of each Living Learning Community at Mason and to provide strategic guidance and support for LLC stakeholders in the execution and assessment of the LLC programs. In addition, the Coordinator for Residential Academic Engagement develops and implements a marketing strategy and executes marketing, recruitment, and assignments for the LLCs.

Duties: * Assist with the development and implementation of all Living Learning Communities (LLCs) within Housing and Residence Life. * Collaborate with Living Learning Community partners and stakeholders; including students, faculty, staff, deans and directors. * Meet monthly with LLC Coordinators and Residence Life staff. * Manage regular communication with LLC stakeholders including the creation of a monthly LLC newsletter * Provide guidance and support to LLC stakeholders in LLC programming to meet learning outcomes, including the collection and tracking of LLC programs using a programming log * Assist with the planning and implementation of the residential curriculum in collaboration with Residential Education team with a focus on academic success and retention. * Manage residential tutoring program and other academic initiatives in the residence halls; recruit, hire, train, and supervise residential tutors. * Work with LLC stakeholders on LLC linked courses and assist in LLC course planning and registration * Support LLC Community Director collaterals in programming, curriculum, LLC RAs, and orientation * Support the LLC RA program including organizing monthly LLC RA meetings and assisting with LLC RA training and development. * Implement LLC marketing and recruitment efforts including creation and management of both print and electronic materials * Work in collaboration with the Office of Admissions, Housing and Residence Life, and other University offices to recruit and admit new LLC students, including coordination of and attendance at Preview Days and Mason Orientation Events. * Manage LLC assignments processes utilizing software in collaboration with other departmental partners * Oversee use of early intervention tools and retention efforts for Living Learning Communities with a focus on retention and timely degree completion. * Provide exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a new, challenging and emerging direction within the University and the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in constantly changing situations as necessary. * Possess the ability to work independently and as a member of a group in addressing strategic priorities, particularly relevant to developing and executing goals and objectives. * Work a flexible work schedule due to evening and weekend programs and events. * Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. * Assist in fulfilling duties of vacant positions within the department, as needed. * Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings. * Actively support and comply with all University policies, HRL regulations, department vision and goals.

Required Qualifications * A master's degree in a related field (e.g. Higher Education, Student Development, Counseling, etc.) or bachelor's degree AND substantial related experience. * At least two years of progressive experience, including a variety of responsibilities, in residence life, student affairs and housing operations. * Experience implementing successful social media and marketing campaigns in conjunction with programming and office identity web-presence. * Demonstrated experience as a supervisor of student or professional staff * Ability to work with a diverse student and staff population. * Must demonstrate a knowledge base and ability to address first-year student transitions and success. * Ability to demonstrate excellent skills in oral and written communications, interpersonal relationships, administrative/organizational skills, problem solving, creativity and critical thinking. * Strong knowledge foundation of student development and have understanding of current trends in residence life and student housing. * Possess a working knowledge of retention software and industry assessment surveys. * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrate the ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of a diverse and dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications * Prior experience in higher education at a four year institution. * Prior experience with Living Learning Communities that contribute to student engagement and retention.
