Job Details

The Critical Threats Project (CTP) at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) is seeking an emerging leader to fill the program assistant role. CTP informs policymakers and develops recommendations on emerging security threats to the US, particularly al Qaeda and Iran. CTP also develops its team into the next generation of foreign policy leaders. The program assistant reports to the CTP director and the senior program manager of Foreign and Defense Policy Studies. This position manages four analysts and fulfills operational responsibilities for the team.

Major responsibilities include managing business functions of the project, such as accounts payable, event coordination, administering account access, and managing information technology projects; providing administrative support to the CTP director; developing staff members and interns; managing processes to upload and maintain content on the CTP and AEI websites; facilitating collaboration with other AEI teams and the Institute for the Study of War; managing research projects and measuring impact; identifying how to make CTP's work accessible to a broader audience; and inculcating a positive, professional, and productive work environment - setting an example for junior staff.

The ideal candidate is a systemic thinker who is assertive and has excellent interpersonal skills. He or she has three to four years of experience being on agile, hardworking teams; can reprioritize to changing business needs; and has demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial management, project management, and strategic planning. He or she is solution-oriented, takes initiative, and sees him or herself as a leader. Excellent communication, research, writing and editing, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required. A bachelor's or master's degree in public or business administration, international relations, or Middle East studies is strongly preferred.

AEI offers a stimulating and harmonious work environment and excellent benefits. Qualified applicants should submit an online application, complete with a resume, a cover letter, transcripts, and a 500-word writing sample on a topic related to the position.
