The Middle, Intermediate, and Upper School Band Teacher is a part-time 75% position reporting to the Heads of the Middle, Intermediate, and Upper Schools. This role is considered to be an Assistant Band Director position that works closely with the Band Director on the music program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare lesson plans following curriculum guidelines and requirements.

• Teach the assigned curriculum using different instructional resources.

• Teach beginner woodwinds at the 5th and 6th grade level.

• Conduct concert bands across three divisions (grades 5-12).

• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities by integrating competencies and goals into the lesson plans.

•  Keep attendance records.

• Manage student behavior in the classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all

  students.

• Evaluate students’ progress, in conjunction with the Band Director.

• Communicate with parents to discuss student progress and areas of growth.

• Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and other teacher training

  workshops.

• Ensure the social, emotional, and academic growth of students

• Perform all other duties as assigned.

  Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in music or music education required.

• A minimum of two years’ experience teaching.

• Experience teaching brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments from beginner to advanced level with

  an emphasis in woodwinds.

• Skilled in writing and preparing lesson plans.

• Ability to communicate, motivate, and understand students’ educational and emotional needs at a wide

  range of developmental stages.

• Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, staff, parents and

  members of the community.

• Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and utilize different

  teaching methods that will result in higher student achievement.

Start and end times of workdays are flexible, but the

Associate Band Director must be available for all class meetings and evening events.
