Requirements

The Director, Clinical Programs is a key member of Georgetown Law's clinical and experiential education program. S/he oversees the smooth operation of the top ranked (and largest) in-house clinical program in the country and supports Georgetown Law ' s 18 clinics , 21 professors, 8 office manager s, 38 fellows and staff, and th e roughly 300 students enrolled in the program annually. Under the direction of the Associate Dean and Assistant Dean, and in partnership with the Program Coordinator, the Director has additional duties that include but are not limited to:

Student Support
  • Provides academic counseling to prospective clinic students before, during, and after the competitive clinical application period.
  • Assists students with issues that arise during clinic participation, working with students to resolve problems and, where necessary, identifying and escalating issues involving faculty or fellows in partnership with the Assistant and Associate Deans.
  • Implements clinic policies, revises those policies where necessary, ensures that non-clinical policies proposed by other departments align with clinical needs, and updates the Clinic Registration Handbook and other policy materials.
  • Oversees the collection, review, and submission of the Rule 48 student practice applications to the Court of Appeals.
  • Serves as the primary link between the Clinic Administration and the students engaging with student groups, leading clinic recruitment events and ensuring that the student perspective is represented in the administrative decision-making process and meetings.


Budget and Administrative Management
  • Works with the Assistant Dean and individual clinics to develop and submit the department's annual budget request.
  • Monitors the Clinic Administration budget and the 19 individual budgets associated with the program to ensure that all budgets are allocated properly, corrected where needed, and on-track to close each fiscal year smoothly.
  • Assists the clinics in on-boarding each new class of clinic fellows with the support of the Program Coordinator, ensuring that fellows are registered for the LLM in Advocacy and have access to all Georgetown Law systems (email).
  • Serves as the primary contact to the operational departments on campus for issues that impact the clinics generally, including Facilities, Faculty Support, Financial Affairs, Human Resources, 1ST, and Main Campus .
  • Working with the Dean ' s office, tracks and ensures that all fellows and visiting/adjunct faculty have updated appointments.


Fellow Support
  • Develops and implements a more coordinated approach to recruiting fellows across all clinics, collaborating with the Communications department to develop a shared page promoting the fellowship and making the application process more accessible for clinics and prospective fellows.
  • Liaises with academic s upport offices, including Financial Aid, the Office of Public Interest and Community Service, and the Office of Career Strategy to ensure that fellows have the maximum possible support from the Law Center.
  • Works to build community among fellows, particularly the second - year fellows, by organizing social and substantive events.
  • Collaborates with the faculty director of the Elements of Clinical Pedagogy seminar, along with the Program Coordinator, to ensure that the program has the support it need s .


Internal Engagement / Outreach
  • Oversees the development of the clinic recrui tmen t calendar, in consultation with the Dean 's office, an d runs the annual competitive process in which over 300 students apply for a clinic seat with the support of the Program Coord i nator.
  • In partnership with the Assistant Dean, coordinates with the Communications and Development offices to develop and impl eme nt a strategy for promoting the clinics within the Law School community.
  • Works with the individual clinics to continually improve the clinic website and, coordinating with the Program Coordinator and Office Manage rs, ensures that all s ites meet accessibi li ty standards.
  • Collaborates with the E x periential Program s department to develop joint marketing materials and shared messag ing priorities.


Strategic Planning
  • Gathers and maintains data about clinic applications and enrollment through each recruiting cycle.
  • Develops strategic planning materials that further the goals of the clinics and their faculty, fellows, and students, working with faculty and the Associate and Assistant Dean s.
  • Provides regular upd ates about clinic work and enrollment to partners or accrediting bodies such as the American Bar Association.


Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate (JD)
  • Superior writing and organizational skills
  • 3+ years of post-JD experience
  • Strong preference for an understanding of clinical and experiential education - particularly experience i n a clinical program during law school or teaching as a clinical fellow
  • Preference for experience wi th students ad vis ing and public interest programming
