What the Director, Organizational Development & Training does The Director, Organizational Development & Training (OD&T) position is key in assisting AGU to promote discovery in Earth and Space science for the benefit of humanity by being strategic and operational in focus. The Director, OD&T, is a strategic and collaborative partner within Human Resources in support of leading transformational change within a diverse, fast-paced, and complex environment. The Director, OD&T is responsible for building capabilities in the areas of organizational and team effectiveness, change management, organization design and transformation, employee engagement strategies and identifying talent needs including succession planning. The Director, OD&T will work to enable stakeholders implement solutions to increase performance and manage through significant change. Additionally, this position will manage the Talent systems function, and is responsible for the Learning Management system and the Talent Calibration process. This incumbent is responsible for design, delivery and implementation of training and organizational development programs and measuring their impact and success. This position will collaborate with the Director, Human Resources, to leverage the Agile Performance Achievement Cycle process and system to achieve success. Reporting to the CFO & SVP , and in partnership with the Director, Human Resources, the Director, OD&T will design and support talent solutions for the organization that are comprehensive and impactful for creating a positive work culture. * Defines the overall strategies and roadmaps to build organizational effectiveness, leveraging both new and existing platforms around performance, talent training and development, engagement, and change management. * Partners with respective senior leadership in identifying and driving the execution of critical capabilities and initiatives. * Provides change management expertise to leaders as required to lead large-scale, complex change projects in partnership with the Director, Human Resource. * Partners with the Director, Human Resources to support the Agile performance management process and system, develops and deploys engagement surveys, and provides consulting services to support senior leadership in driving organizational outcomes. * Leverages talent data and analytics to provide insight and decision support to the CFO & SVP of HR and executive leadership team. * Facilitates design and implementation of reengineering and/or reorganization efforts as needed. * Leads design and development of AGU succession plan. * In collaboration with the Director, Human Resources, assesses and evolves the organizational culture, building on the dedication to the mission of the American Geophysical Union. Provides necessary recommendations on changes to accomplish company goals and objectives. * Plans, develops and directs AGU-wide training and organizational development initiatives, programs and models. * Conducts learning needs assessments to determine knowledge, skills and behaviors requirements. Manages the learning and development process to include vendor management, program creation/administration, communication, content delivery and management. Measures, analyzes, and communicates learning and development trends, strengths and opportunities. * Consults with AGU managers to address the learning and development needs of their staff and implement relevant solutions to improve performance at all levels. * Supports the development of people management skills for both new and more experienced managers and supervisors. * Leads the identification and tracking of key learning and development metrics to determine overall effectiveness of various initiatives. * Evaluates new and existing training and development programs for effectiveness, cost/benefit, and business impact, and provides necessary recommendations to CFO & SVP of HR. * Conducts vendor selection and contract negotiations and administers consultant contracts for training and organizational development programs. * Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through regular budget management. * Keeps abreast of the latest learning & development research, concepts and technologies and ensure where and when applicable these concepts are evaluated/considered. * Responsible for management of the training and development budget. * Other duties as assigned. What the Director, Organizational Development & Training brings to the team * 10+ years of experience in organizational development and training program instructional design with Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management (with a concentration in Organizational Development & Training), Business Administration, Communications or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred. * Minimum of 5 years' hands on experience developing and delivering Organization Development programs (eg Competencies, Strategic Workforce Planning, Succession Planning, Assessments and Surveys, Engagement, 360's). * HRCI Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), and ATD Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) or Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) certification strongly preferred; ability to otherwise attain a certification credential within one year required. * Experienced in developing and implementing assessment tools. * Experience using applicable diagnostic organizational development tools. * Experience with AMS, LMS, event registration software programs, and website content management systems is strongly desired. a * Previous experience working in a membership organization environment is preferred. * Comfortable with complexity, ambiguity and change. * A relationship builder and networker - particularly with the senior team at AGU. * Leadership presence and the ability to establish credibility to influence at all organizational levels * Proven track record partnering with business leaders to design and execute high impact organizational solutions * Skilled at presenting recommendations and influencing senior leaders * Strategic thinker AND can execute and deliver on assignments and achieve results * Drive ideas and be persuasive, influence with grace and respect * Results oriented, and can deliver under difficult conditions, and maintain a balanced point of view under pressure. * Analytical; make decisions using data and organizational knowledge and can present them in a simple way. * High level of integrity and the ability to hold sensitive information in confidence. * Innovative and agile learner * Ability to analyze and assess training and development needs. * Knowledge of computerized information systems used in human resources applications. Strong knowledge of MS Office is required. * Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving. * Ability to build trust with professionalism and credibility. * Strong facilitation skills. * Demonstration of a strong record of personal and organization achievement with bottom line accountability. * Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality. * Must be collaborative in nature, utilizing exceptional listening and facilitation skills to build effective teams, drive effective outcomes and to develop innovative solutions that meet the needs of multiple stakeholders. * Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines/requirements for accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. * Ability to travel.
