Location: US-MD-BaltimoreID: 2017-1630# of Openings: 1Category: TechnicianShift: 6:00am - 2:30pm or as dictated by daily job activities.Overview Alban CAT, the Caterpillar dealer for the mid-Atlantic Region is accepting applications for a Field Machinist I for our Baltimore REMAN branch.Responsibilities The Field Machinist I is responsible for fabricating and repairing components in the field and shop sites and performing shop repairs on construction and on-highway trucks. Performs machining and welding of metal parts with assistance of portable mechanical equipment, including boring tools, welding torches and stick welders. Builds up material with wire fed welder or stick welder. Reads prints, viewing dimensions and samples to repair and/or assemble metal parts. Assembles all components with the help of power and hand tools. Re-machines parts to repair and maintains critical dimensions. Fabricates and modifies defective parts as needed. Inspects completed work to determine structural soundness and fit to mechanical part. Ensures proper dimensions, compliance and tolerance levels of finished product is defect free. Cleans and maintains portable machining and welding equipment. Performs various other duties as assigned.Qualifications Must have experience in machining and welding with portable machines and fabricating on heavy construction equipment. Must be familiar with standard machining and welding concepts, practices and procedures. Must be able to machine from raw castings and bar stock. Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes and earthmoving equipment preferred. Must have good troubleshooting skills and be able to read micrometers, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate machining and/or welding process. Must have tools related to machining and welding trade. Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
