Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, a national center for the production, presentation, development, and study of the American Theater, seeks professional and experienced candidates for its Director of Production position. The Director of Production is responsible for the overall management of the Production Department, balancing artistic vision and integrity with practical needs including deadlines and budgets. The Director of Production will be responsible for budget management, staff development and creative problem solving. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Five years of production management experience. Degree in theatre preferred but not required. Ability to work some evenings and weekends required. Knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of all production elements including scenic, properties, lighting, costuming, sound, video, stage management, and directing. Previous experience working within SDC, AEA, USA and AFofM collective bargaining agreements preferred. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate effective communication among the directors, designers and all members of production staff Budget and schedule the needs of the Production Department to ensure the fulfillment of planned productions, presentations, rentals and other events Create and monitor schedules for building, production and presentation activities. Oversee annual production budget, monitor expenses and provide timely updates of actual expenses and projections Facilitate design and production meetings, ensure deadlines are met and oversee the tech/production process Administer the production payroll Contract production staff (scenic, props, costume, lighting, sound, other production support) Hire additional production staff (overhire) as required As a member of Senior Staff, work with the Senior Staff to schedule and plan each season and develop strategic plans for the future.
