Job Summary The Senior Accountant has primary responsibility over the day-to-day accounting activities relating to the global casualty insurance programs, which provides workers' compensation, general and auto liability, employment practices liability, umbrella/excess, fidelity and fiduciary coverage to program participants. This position will monitor premium and deductible allocations and accounting for casualty insurance program costs of approximately $220M, as well as develop knowledge and skills in financial aspects of Risk Management to support team, departmental and enterprise-wide business objectives. This position reports to the Manager, Risk Finance. Job Responsibilities The primary responsibilities of the Senior Accountant are to: * Oversee the global casualty insurance premium allocations and other insurance charges made to operating units, ensuring that the allocations run timely and accurately * Investigate and fix premium allocation issues * Monitor the chargeback mechanism of allocating the cost of claim deductibles back to operating units each month * Analyze program costs and expenses to ensure casualty insurance program activity is properly captured and recorded * Participate in the preparation and submission of renewal information for the annual renewal of the domestic and global umbrella/excess casualty, global employment practices liability and fidelity insurance programs * Provide accounting support and coordinate monthly and quarterly accounting journal entries * Partner with Insurance, Claims, Systems and other departments to provide support for specific requests, reports, and projects * Maintain a strong internal control environment and ensure all accounts are reconciled timely and accurately * Assist in the annual internal and external audit process by preparing PBC's and responding to related audit questions * Develop and review documentation of current accounting policies and procedures and initiate possible updates or improvements * Responding to corporate and operations questions and documentation needs * Research and assist with special projects as requested, including departmental technology initiatives and reporting needs * Oversee Project Train implementation and ensure that the Contract Engine calculations are accurate. Reporting Relationships Supervisor - The Senior AccountantSenior Manager, Insurance Accounting reports to the Manager, Risk Finance and works closely with that position in coordinating allocation and other funding activity as well as all program costs associated with Marriott's global casualty insurance programs. Knowledge and Experience * Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance * Minimum of 3 years of progressive job experience in accounting/finance field. * Experience with PeopleSoft general ledger system * Experience in the hospitality/lodging industry preferred but not required * Strong accounting & systems skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel * Risk Management or Insurance related background helpful * Strong business process skills; capable of developing effective processes, ensuring compliance with existing processes and producing quality results * Able to develop and maintain effective client relationships and promote a client service orientation that delivers customer results * High degree of initiative, personal responsibility and integrity * Strong analytical skills * Strong verbal and written communications skills; ability to communicate with various levels of the organization * Demonstrate an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge * Highly organized and able to handle multiple priorities * Displays commitment towards collaborating in a results oriented team setting * Demonstrates an independent ability to research and analyze transactions; problem solver * Ensures all work is completed with a high attention to detail * Consistently exhibit a positive attitude with high level of energy and enthusiasm LOCATION * This position will be based at MI Corporate Headquarters Marriott International is an equal opportunity employer committed to hiring a diverse workforce and sustaining an inclusive culture.
