The Director of Development will play a critical role on a small team responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of primarily institutional and government funders. The Director will manage a portfolio of institutional prospects through the pipeline to award and stewardship. This role will support the Vice President of Development in the creation and implementation of the overall Development strategy, including high-potential cultivation efforts and concept paper and proposal development. The Director will also oversee data and contact tracking, event planning, and material creation, through supervision of a staff member. Summary of Key Responsibilities:Proposal Writing*Responsible for the development of reusable narratives, in both concept papers and full proposals, to support grant cultivation and solicitation.*Contributes to development of successful proposals to foundations, corporations, and the federal government. *Identify and lead team-based pursuit of 1-2 competitive federal grants to pursue in 2020. Grant Stewardship and Management*Responsible for grant management and reporting, including stewardship and regular monitoring of project milestones and budget activity for select grants.*Review all contracts and deliverables for each grant; manage kick-off, co-ordinate check-ins with program to ensure deliverables and deadlines are met.*Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, in the case of federal grants and contracts, and with all donor requirements, in the case of philanthropic grants, including interim and final grant reports. Research, Cultivation & Solicitation*Partner with Vice President of Development to develop comprehensive prospect strategies for full portfolio.*Own a small portfolio of institutional prospects, driving relationships forward through thoughtful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.*Research and identify new prospects, analyzing their giving histories and developing cultivation strategies. *Assist and provide meeting support to Vice President of Development and President / CEO with principal prospects. Project Management*Support the building of development tracking system within the organization's Salesforce database. *Maintain accurate tracking of prospects and donors within Salesforce database to ensure appropriate cultivation, solicitation, negotiation and stewardship.*Lead preparation of development-related communication including correspondence, proposals spreadsheets, reports and briefing memos.*Exercise excellent judgement while handling sensitive and confidential information. Supervisory *Supervises, coaches, and develops the Senior Associate of Development. *Other duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Summary of Experience:*B.A. or BS degree required.*A minimum of five years of experience in fundraising or donor relations.*Track record of success in corporate, foundation and government grant solicitation. *Experience scheduling, coordinating and executing prospecting activity.*Database experience required, Salesforce or other CRM experience preferred; high proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Apps and project management software.*Experience managing large, complex projects with evidence of superb organizational skills and attention to detail.
