As a Design Project Administrator, you will provide administrative and technical support in the management of multi-discipline contracts for capital Architecture/Engineer (A/E) design projects at the Airports Authority.

Design Project Administrator

Serves in the Design Department of the Office of Engineering at either Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

Provides administrative and technical support in the management of multi-discipline contracts for capital Architecture/Engineer (A/E) design projects. Assists in the maintenance of financial, scope and schedule status of A/E design projects. Performs related functions.


Assists in the administrative and technical support of capital design management activities for major projects and other projects.

Assists in the development of design progress reports and schedules, and compiles comments resulting from staff review.

Assists in coordinating the work activities of a number of consultants and contractors, including assisting in tracking work schedules, assignments, and priorities.

Works with Design Project Managers in finalizing detailed budget and forecast cost plans and inputs those details in the financial system and project control system.

Assists in the cost and financial administration of design contracts, including changes, budget and forecasts impacts, and cash flow projections;

Prepares periodic project and contract cost and schedule reports; provides analyses and review of cost and budget expenditures; and highlights anticipated cost variances and exceptions.

Coordinates A/E firms' provision of design phase services.

Prepares and edits design correspondence for Project Managers; responds to inquiries.

Performs other duties, as assigned.


Eight years of progressively responsible experience in project administration, with emphasis on design or construction projects.

Knowledge of A/E concepts, principles, and practices and ability to assist in the design project management and contract management of capital projects.

Knowledge of the design and construction industries and project management practices and ability to ensure that project activities are within program budget and schedules.

Knowledge of A/E project financing and accounting procedures and ability to perform estimating and analysis functions.

Ability to make detailed analyses of data and information and make recommendations.

Ability to speak and write effectively.

Skill in using a computer and modern office suite software.


A Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Engineering.


A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).


A state driver's license in good standing.


Operates vehicle airside and landside (requires AOA permit).

Work is typically reviewed in progress upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.

Works both in-house and on construction sites. May be subject to adverse weather conditions and dust/grease/dirt.

May be subject to potential hazards common to the airport environment and construction industry. Wears personal protective gear, as necessary.

May be subject to night/weekend work.


A background security investigation will be required for all new hires.
