Summary

The primary focus for the Audiovisual Production Specialist (TV Production Automation) is to develop a production plan for and to operate television production automation during newscasts and other programming produced by VOA or other USAGM entities.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Operating audio/video production automation system (e.g., "Ross Overdrive") during newscasts and other programming.
  • Coordinating and communicating with the program's producer to achieve the graphic and visual elements of the program and cues talent as necessary for the smooth staging of the program.
  • Preparing templates, "plug-ins," "macros," and other production shortcuts to mirror production elements and various visual formats.
  • Working inside the VOA's newsroom computer systems, (e.g., "Dalet"), coding his/her television programs with templates, plug-ins, macros, and other production shortcuts for broadcast.
  • Setting up and working within the scripting and pre-production tools needed to prepare and execute the program, including live newscasts of high degrees of complexity.
  • Following "naming conventions" and VOA procedures for storing templates, plug-ins, macros, and other production shortcuts for use by others.
  • Working with the production team during the program to creatively and technically execute the program without error and without unscripted pauses.
  • Coordinating with technical departments for the smooth scheduling, caching, and/or playing of the program to air.
  • Juggling live and taped elements within the production automation system, both in preparation and in executing the program for air.
  • Monitoring studio lighting, camera, and staging needs and alerts studio supervisors to required maintenance.
  • Responsible for monitoring audio and video quality for production.
  • Operating audio board as needed during live and pre-recorded programming, including establishment of secondary audio channels for real-time translation; and backs up other TV production automation specialist in case of difficulty.
  • Assisting in the production of video elements and template graphics as needed prior to broadcast and sets up or creates new templates as needed.

Qualifications

For the GS-13 position: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12), which is directly related to this line of work. Additionally, applicants must show that they possess the specialized experience within their resume, in order to be considered for this position:
    • Experience in operating TV audio/video production automation systems (e.g., Ross OverDrive) in order to direct live newscasts and other programming.
    • Experience in production planning and pre-production of TV audio/video using production automation systems (e.g., the Ross OverDrive System).
    • Experience using shortcuts, such as plug-ins, macros, and other production shortcuts needed during television programming.
    • Experience using software systems such as Dalet/Dalet Plus and/or Dalet Galaxy (Five).
