Paragon Gene Therapy, in Baltimore & Harmans, Maryland, provides industry-leading GMP development and manufacturing services for cutting-edge biopharmaceuticals such as recombinant viral vectors, next generation vaccines & hard-to-express recombinant proteins and oncolytic viruses. This individual performs independently and productively as an Upstream Development Associate Scientist/Engineer and is actively engaged in process and product development within a dynamic project team with a GMP mindset. This person executes most fundamental and some specialized lab techniques focused on cell amplification and protein expressions. With this knowledge, prior to each study they consult with the supervisor to execute a series of experiments independently or with minimal supervision. After the experiment is complete they assist in data analysis and report generation, actively participate in preparation of the protocol, reports and SOPs. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Has knowledge/expertise relevant to Cell Cultivation Process Development including: Strong understanding and application of aseptic techniques Cell culture handling, cell growth characterization and optimization at different scale Production of material at different scale using various platforms from flasks to stirred-tanks and packed bed bioreactors Production of various buffers and reagents, medium formulation General analytical methods applicable for proteins (SDS PAGE electrophoresis, western immunoblotting, plaque assay, etc.) Instrument care, maintenance, troubleshooting and data interpretation Document writing, participating in data analysis and preparation of the reports and presentations Education & Experience: Scientist/Engineer II - Bachelor degree in a life science or Chemical/Biochemical engineering and 3-5 years of experience in either a process development or manufacturing role supporting cell culture, upstream processes with some or all this time in a GMP environment Scientist/Engineer III - Bachelor degree in a life science or Chemical/Biochemical engineering and 5-7 years of experience OR Master's degree in a life science or Chemical/Biochemical engineering and 3-5 years in either a process development or manufacturing role supporting cell culture, upstream processes with some or all this time in a GMP environment Experience running depth filtration and Tangential Flow Filtration highly desirable Maintain multiple cell lines and supply working cell cultures for analytical/process development team Perform scale-up of suspension and adherent cell lines from shake flasks/T-flasks to Stir Tank Bioreactors and cell Factory/HyperStacks Prior experience preparing buffers, reagents & media as well as managing inventory The ability to work in team oriented environment is essential, as this person will work closely with other members of Process Development Group and participate on multidisciplinary project teams.
