The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) within the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community. A major focus of the CRTP is the NCI RAS Initiative to discover new therapeutic interventions against RAS-driven cancers and to gain structural and mechanistic insights into KRAS interaction with various effectors and regulators. In addition, the CRTP hosts the Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory (NCL) which performs and standardizes preclinical efficacy and toxicity testing of nanoparticles intended for cancer therapeutics and diagnostics, and the Antibody Characterization Lab (ACL) which characterizes monoclonal antibodies or other renewable affinity binding reagents for use in cancer-related research. CRTP scientists also work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIESThe RAS Initiative at Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research is seeking a PhD-level scientist with experience in single-particle cryo electron microscopy to work on multiple large protein-protein complexes in RAS biology. The Frederick National Laboratory hosts the National Cryo-EM facility to screen and collect cryo-EM data on large protein-protein complexes. Key Responsibilities: Carrying out single-particle cryo-EM studies on KRAS complexes with various effectors and regulators Working closely with an integrated team of protein scientists in the Protein Expression Laboratory at the FNLCR Participating in experimental design and to independently conduct experiments in a priority-driven environment Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously Completing projects independently and as part of a team Providing timely updates of the project progress and generating high-quality peer-reviewed publications BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a Ph.D. degree in structural biology from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U. S. equivalency Working knowledge of entire cryoEM workflow from the preparation of negatively stained and frozen hydrated specimens, loading of the microscope, imaging for screening/automated data collection and image processing Expertise in high-resolution structure determination by cryo-EM single particle analysis Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Excellent written and verbal communication skills Able to work dynamically in a diverse team environment Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) | Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran (M/F/D/V) | Drug Free Workplace (DFW)
