Job Announcement

This position supports the Foster Care and Adoption Resource and Support program and works out from the Pennino Building. The post adoption services specialist provides clinical casework services for a caseload of children adopted from foster care and their adoptive families. Casework services are focused on supporting and preserving the adoption. Services may include providing supportive counseling to adoptive families via telephone or in-person, providing crisis intervention, and monitoring appropriateness and progress of residential care, home based services, and other services provided to families through post adoption services. Administrative duties include recording case information in an electronic case management system and maintaining compliance to state and local adoption assistance policies and procedures. Additional duties include processing adoption assistance applications, responding to inquiries for post adoption services, negotiating agreements for services with adoptive families, and processing finance paperwork. Participates in required trainings and meetings, may serve as a representative on workgroups.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work;
  • Knowledge of current social service problems and methods/approaches to address issues;
  • Knowledge of regulations and guidelines relating to the assigned area of social service specialization;
  • Ability to analyze case information and to reach sound decisions on the basis of such information;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to use automated technology to establish and maintain case records;
  • Ability to maintain professional ethics and confidentiality of client information;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals;
  • Ability to schedule and manage workload sufficiently to meet deadlines.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's License (Required upon hire).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in social work (MSW).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in foster care and adoption.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in working with a diverse multicultural population.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Appointee must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Sufficient mobility to travel outside the office, county, and state for client contact, court appearances, and community events. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to use automated technology, including but not limited to computer and cellular phone. Ability to operate a motor vehicle to attend home visits and meetings not accessible via public transportation. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
