Job Announcement

Manages a countywide natural resource management program. We seek ecologist with skills in natural resource impact assessment and review, natural resource management, project management, and program administration to conduct ecological restoration assessment and natural resource activities at select sites across parkland totaling more than 20,000 acres.

Manages the natural capital protection program. The natural capital protection program reviews and comments on internal and external proposed projects, designs, and activities for impacts to park authority natural resources. The program ensures compliance with agency natural resource policy and guidance by applying the mitigation hierarchy--avoid, minimize, restore. Under direction, the position is expected to develop, manage, and serve as team leader for the program. Will have both office and field responsibilities, and may supervise personnel. It will serve as principal contact/resource on questions, policies and procedures relating to the program.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in aquatic ecology, ecology, biology, botany, zoology, geography, environmental science, limnology, natural resource management, or a related field; plus five years of experience in the environmental science field at, or equivalent to, the Ecologist II level, to include experience in water quality monitoring, terrestrial ecosystem assessment and management, data analysis and reporting, bioassessments (fish, macroinvertebrates, vegetative communities, wildlife) using standard protocols, and assessments of associated habitat conditions.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Master's degree in ecology, biology, botany, arboriculture, forestry, geography, natural resources, environmental, or related field. At least one year previous supervisory experience. ISA Certified Arborist or SAF Certified Forester, or ability to obtain either certification within one year.

Ability to carry field equipment and hike long distances over rough terrain. Ability to operate motor vehicle. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
