This position is responsible for making and repairing high-grade wooden items throughout the Gallery facilities, to include fine furniture and cabinetwork.

Responsibilities

The incumbent:
  • draws plans and designs for assigned tasks. Completion of AAE directed assignments is performed on an independent basis.
  • must have knowledge of and skill in the use of: radial, band, panel and table saws; tenoning and mortizing machines; surface planers; jointers, shapers and lathes; drill press; disc and drum sanders;panel routers.
  • skilled in developing curved, contoured and shaped surfaces and features such as inlays, scroll work, matched panels, matched contours and complex joints. S/he must have skill in laminating, veneering, plastic overlaying and grain matching.
  • responsible for planning and performing work in a manner which minimizes waste and the costs of materials. Advises the designer if errors are found in plans which result in problems of fit, installation, selection or substitution of materials.
  • must be able to make a wide variety of wood items with intricate, interlocking parts that fit and join precisely. S/he must be skilled in the use of accepted carpentry and woodworking trade methods and techniques.

    You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
