We are currently seeking a Sr. VMware Engineer for the Department of Homeland Security Headquarters in Washington, DC. A Top Secret/SCI clearance is required for this position, however the majority of contract work is performed in an unclassified environment, which may be a welcome change if you're accustomed to working in a SCIF full-time. There is also a large amount of flexibility in working hours and for telework. The Sr. VMware Engineer is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of technical projects supporting the DHS Headquarters campus environment. Responsibilities:Design, architect, configure, deploy, upgrade and support VMware on various hardware platforms Configure and deploy various server platformsDiagnose and troubleshoot VMware and other related technologiesAdhere to engineering and architecture standards and participate in technical review meetings as requiredParticipate in the evaluation, deployment and management of new technologies in alignment with other engineers and architectsIncident support and participation in on-call rotation during off hours and weekendsCreate and maintain documentation: logical/physical diagrams, run books and other technical engineering documentsConsistently demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and processesOversees the Installation of new server hardware and software according to standard operating procedures Oversees the updates to hardware, operating systems, and software as needed to provide required functionality and securityEnsures systems are monitored and statistics relevant to capacity, performance, utilization, etc. are collected and regularly reviewedKeeps abreast of current developments in server/VI technology to assist Federal staff in assessing the future direction of server technology Requiredments:BS and 8+ year related experience; or equivalent combination Hands on engineering experience with VMware (to include ESX, ESXi/vSphere, vCenter, vMotion, and/or DRS) and other virtualization technologies and conceptsExperience designing, installing and supporting server solutions and devices: physical and/or virtualExperience with capacity planning and sizing VMware environmentsExperience in performance tuning and optimizing computing platformsExperience with data center migrations - moving VM workloadsExpert experience configuring and deploying various server platforms (such as Cisco UCS, HP, Dell, etc.)Strong experience with design, development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale systems, preferably across multiple hardware and software platformsStrong understanding of high availability concepts with practical experience and implementation of key components (databases, application servers, fault tolerant systems, cluster server/software, etc.)Strong understanding of fundamental hardware concepts: disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, performance concepts (I/O, paging, swapping, system calls), iSCSI, Fiber Channel, Ethernet, firmwareStrong understanding of essential TCP/IP protocols: such as TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP, and understanding of wider set protocolsUnderstanding of Security best practices as related to infrastructure and application architecturesStrong written and oral communications Desired:VMware or Microsoft certificationVMware View experienceCisco UCS experiencePowerShell scripting experienceITIL Foundations certification Benefits: Industry competitive salary well above market average 401K plan with 4% company match, immediately fully vested Referral bonuses up to $5,000 PPO Medical plan for employee + family (100% Company paid premiums)Vision and Dental plan for employee + family (100% Company paid premiums)Short Term Disability for employee (100% Company paid premiums)Long Term Disability for employee (100% Company paid premiums)Life Insurance for employee (100% Company paid premiums)Supplemental Life Insurance available for employee, spouse and childrenFlexible Vacation Policy: 15 days per year encouraged, additional time granted10+ Company Holidays per year Unlimited sick time up to 5 days per occurrence 6 weeks paid maternity and paternity leave Flexible work environment to accommodate commuting, family and personal schedules Ability to telework when presence not required at client location Company sponsored training and certifications No questions asked professional/business/technical book reimbursement Company paid conference attendance and travel expenses High speed, low drag environment - exceptional client service with minimal internal bureaucracy Quarterly company sponsored events and meet-ups Annual company holiday party
