AMAR Group seeks a dynamic and effective Director of Government Affairs, who is a senior leader within the organization and will be responsible for managing the internal day-to-day operations of the Policy, Campaigns & Advocacy to ensure that the division runs efficiently, maintains compliance, practices good financial stewardship, and meets its programmatic targets while also supporting company-wide strategic goals and initiatives. The Director serves as a leading thought-partner to the Senior Vice-President, working closely with the Organizing, Engagement, & Campaigns; Public Policy Litigation & Law; and Government Relations team leads within the division to ensure strong communication and coordination between departments. The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader and manager of both people and projects and bring strong organizational skills and top-notch attention to detail to the position. S/he will have impeccable discretion, an unflappable approach, and excellent relationship-building and problem-solving skills. The position reports to the Senior Vice-President and is based in Washington, DC. Duties & Responsibilities . Drive strong communication and coordination across the division and lead cross-departmental initiatives.. Own division-wide management bodies and ensure that structures are designed to best support the work and our values, including respecting and honoring all people.. Design and lead weekly division-wide huddle and Management Team meetings and monthly Leadership Team meetings.. Coordinate annual retreat to unite staff around a shared purpose.. Ensure that the division as a whole receives regular updates on key areas of work through written and verbal updates.. Work to create and sustain new internal systems and structure (eg, communication systems, meeting structure, consistency of titles across departments) to match our needs as a large organization.. Ensure that decisions are communicated to the appropriate staff.. Drive additional cross-departmental internal initiatives (eg, developing stronger professional development systems, amending our broader meeting structure).. Oversee the day-to-day work of the OSVP, including planning for key deadlines and meetings to ensure work is on track, managing the OSVP budget, managing the division-wide calendar and ensuring that AMAR is prepared for all meetings and events.. Lead annual budgeting and mid-year reforecasting to ensure that the AMAR has clear priorities that align with the National Office strategy and the resources to support them.. Act as "Chief Problem Solver" to resolve ad hoc challenges arise and develop and implement solutions that work. Lead day-to-day conflict resolution and serve as a final decision-maker, as needed.. Lead by example; set high performance standards for self and staff. Foster a positive, team environment of achievement and ensure staff accountability through clearly defined and measurable goals.. Build a sense of teamwork and ownership, empowering staff through active communication and delegation.. Create an environment that welcomes differences of opinion and promotes respect for others, and fosters trust and cooperation. Requirements / Technical Expertise . Master's degree.. 8-10 years of related, progressively responsible work experience in organizing, campaigns, government, or nonprofit management, including supervisory and management experience.. Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a multicultural workforce, and sensitivity and appreciation to cultural differences is essential.. This position will need to respond to the needs of a fast-paced operation which requires after-hours availability.. Financial management experience a plus. Personal Qualities /Other Attributes . 10+ years of applicable, progressively responsible experience combined with a demonstrated ability to achieve results, manage people and projects, instill a sense of confidence and bring people along in the process. Strong leadership development and management skills, professional training and/or experience in leadership development, organizational development and coaching preferred. Ability to consistently execute and manage exceptional work. . Able to handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced, ever changing environment.. Proven ability to build deep, trusting, and effective work relationships with a variety of internal and external partners. A team player with exceptional oral and written communication skills and interpersonal savvy.. Ability to quickly determine which problems and challenges can be resolved independently versus those that require input and the ability to make it so. Experience working with sensitive information and emotional maturity to handle varying complex situations appropriately.
