Middle School Classroom Teacher (Long-Term Substitute)
The Potomac School seeks a part-time Middle School Classroom Teacher to fill a long-term maternity leave for the start of the 2019-2020 school year, from late August through mid-November. This position reports to the Head of the Middle School and is responsible for teaching grade 5

Duties and Responsibilities:

•  Teach the assigned curriculum using different instructional resources, correct assignments, administer tests, observe and evaluate students’ progress.
•  Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities by integrating competencies, and goals into the lesson plans.
•  Keep attendance records; manage student behavior in classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
•  Meet with the parents to discuss student progress and problems.
•  Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and other teacher training workshops.
•  Ensure the social, emotional and academic (language arts, mathematics, and social studies) growth of a class of children
•  Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

•  Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
•  A minimum of two years’ experience teaching at the Middle School level.
•  Ability to communicate, motivate and understand the students’ educational and emotional needs.
•  Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff, parents and members of the community.
•  Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and utilize different teaching methods that will result in higher student achievement.
