Responsibilities

  • You will conduct education training to ensure staff member receives current processes and procedures in caring for children.
  • You will conduct staff training in early childhood and youth development to comply with established regulations regarding training requirements.
  • You will coordinate and support developmentally appropriate programming for children and youth ages 6 weeks - 18 years of age.
  • You will develop curricula to ensure the quality and consistency of developmental programs and age-appropriate activities in early childhood development and related activities.
  • You will prepare lesson plans and activity schedules to assist with training objectives.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting with the development of curriculum outlines and/or lesson plans for child and youth programs; 2) Providing guidance and training to employees/staff on developing and implementing curricula, weekly activities, and lesson plans; 3) Updating and maintaining records and development plans in a data system; 4) Assisting with classroom observations and assessments to ensure curriculum objectives are being implemented.

Education

In addition to specialized experience you may also minimally qualify for this position with the following education:

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree.

A degree that included child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education (early childhood emphasis), or other fields appropriate to the position to be filled.

A combination of education and experience in which courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

A 40 hour work week is typical of this position.

Term appointments may be extended up to 8 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations. Additionally, you may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment under specific conditions.

Physical Demands
The incumbent may be required to do considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping and standing and lifting up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment
The work involves every day risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of a wide variety of child and youth activities, programs and services, such as exposure to disease, injuries from lifting children or youth or supplies up to 40 pounds. Training and office areas are adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. May work an uncommon tour of duty to include evening and weekend work to accommodate schedules of employees and providers.
