Responsibilities

The Information Technology Specialist (Veterans Affairs), located in the Office of Management and Administration. The incumbent is an expert in the Information Technology area and provides expert guidance to the Office of Inspector General in all phases of the System Development Life Cycle for system server administration, network administration, desktop management as well as security, integrity and disaster recovery.

As an Information Technology Specialist (Veterans Affairs), you will:
-Serve as the Office of Inspector Generals technical expert on all projects involving the use of Multi-Tier Applications (Database, Operating System, Webserver, etc.).
-Maintain liaison with Office of Inspector General elements as agency technical expert to plan and develop recommendations for assigned project activities for more effective use of automated information systems.
-Ensure the security and integrity of the Office of Inspector General information systems and information.
-Plan, implement, test and maintain the disaster recovery capabilities of the Office of Inspector General information systems.
-Test, evaluate and recommend new hardware and software to provide for systems support throughout the System Development Life Cycle of OIG information systems.

Travel Required

25% or less - 1-5 nights per month. Travel nationwide under tight deadlines. The incumbent should anticipate frequent walking and standing as a component of this travel.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
-Experience managing server infrastructures and data-center operations across one or more platforms (Unix, Linux, Windows); AND
-Experience participating in the administration, optimization and troubleshooting of corporate information system infrastructures and telecommunication networks.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
