Summary

The PET Department within the Clinical Center provides PET imaging services for both inpatient and outpatient research participants. The Radiochemistry Section in PET has the primary responsibility to manufacture PET drug products for immediate use in PET imaging studies. Individuals with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a system to control cGMP and quality assurance documents and records for the manufacture of positron emission tomography (PET) drugs for human use.
  • Serve as the focal point for external and internal quality assurance audits of a laboratory that manufactures PET drugs for human use.
  • Conduct surveys/validation exercises to ensure adequacy of safety practices, environmental procedures, technical documentation and data, and radiochemistry manufacturing practices.
  • Plan and conduct in-depth studies/experiments involving new positron emission tomography (PET) drug products in biomedical research.
  • Coordinate current research with other staff of the laboratory and research collaborators outside of the organizations to complete test programs.
  • Develops new methods or modifies existing ones for collecting, analyzing, organizing and recording experimental data appropriate for publication and future reference by others.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, including coordinating activities of diverse laboratory research projects and personnel, and ensuring availability of equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-15 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:

Basic Qualifications:
Degree: bachelor's or higher level degree from an accredited college or university in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR

Combination of education and experience course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Additional Qualifications at the GS-15 level:

In addition, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning and performing investigations to develop new methods and means of validating findings; managing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory; determining the information or methods needed to complete the various testing phases of projects; establishing new criteria or developing methods and techniques.
