Responsibilities

The incumbent determines/manages inventory requirements based on ship yard repair programs and customer demand, coordinating material distribution, acquisition strategy, procurement vehicles and authorization as well as providing

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include:

-Determining and maintaining stock levels of Coast Guard retail supply items to achieve effective shipyard supply support with efficient utilization and authorization of industrial funds.

-Managing, directing, and monitoring inventory requirements for scheduled industrial ship overhaul operations.

-Acting to resolve supply discrepancies, inventory reconciliations, frustrated material deliveries, and communicate with procurement officials to achieve acceptable delivery schedules.

-Developing acquisition strategy including procurement options which consider various procurement factors, manufacturing and procurement lead times.

-Initiating disposal action for Coast Guard material when the equipment/supplies has reached its potential excess condition or expiration date.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade.

Qualifications

Applicants at the GS-9 level must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service;

OR successful completion of master's or equivalent graduate degree;

OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree;

OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience at the GS-7 level include: assisting with the management of inventory items for a program; initiating the procurement of material; monitoring stocking levels based on order and usage records; assisting in the development of a budget for the procurement of material and services in support of managed items; generating reports and plans, work schedules, and other data to track planned support programs; coordinating materials support for a program; and developing close working relationships with inventory managers, supply technicians, procurement specialists or contractors;

Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

4. Knowledge of computer software programs, proficiency in use of computer terminal for data retrieval and input, computer generated reports, accounting and warehouse functions.
