About the Position: These Crane Operator positions are located in the US Army Aberdeen Test Center, Plans and Operations Directorate, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

Responsibilities

  • - Operates wheeled and tracked cranes from I5 to 300 tons with telescoping and lattice booms from 25 to 400 feet in length, small jib cranes, pendant operated bridge cranes and low bay cab operated cranes.
  • - Installs weight handling gear such as cables, ropes, slings used to lift, move and position large and heavy equipment such as cannon tubes, components and machine parts under close supervision.
  • - Uses hand signals to guide crane operators in hoisting, moving, and lowering the load into the desired position.
  • - Operates forklift trucks with a capacity under 10,000 pounds to load and unload, stack and unstack, warehouse, and move boxes, crates, pallets, components, or loose items.
  • - Regulates movement and positioning; is careful to avoid overloading or improper stacking or movement of supplies and materials.
  • - Performs driver's maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. 1) Operating mobile cranes (e.g. 25-300 ton capacity) in support of testing and infrastructure missions 2) Executing crane lifts according to test support schedules, range support assignments, and assists in prioritizing asset allocation to missions, 3) Interacting with internal and external personnel/customers throughout the test support process to resolve problems; and 4) Using heavy equipment [e.g. Excavators, Bulldozers, Scrapers, Graders, Backhoes, Loaders].

  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A job offer to an applicant who is a not a current employee will be withdrawn if the applicant refuses to be tested. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment. Applications from such individuals shall not be considered for employment for a period of 6 months from the date of the test results.
