Summary

This position is part of the Defense Media Activity. The incumbent of this position serves as a Senior Planning Specialist (VI COMCAM) responsible for maintaining a piece of the VI planning program.

Responsibilities

As a SENIOR PLANNING SPECIALIST(VISUAL INFORMATION COMBAT CAMERA) at the GS-0301-12 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Monitor global news developments and ascertains the impact of events on military operations within the (CCMDs) and the department.
  • Direct and manage imagery ingest, editing, and work flow in coordination with photo journalists and staff.
  • Develop and draft requirements for expeditionary directed VI (such as COMCAM forces) in the appropriate sections of a mission plan for joint operations (e.g. Appendix 10 to Annex C, Annex F, and/or Annex Y).
  • Determine requirements for video and still imagery and identify capabilities to direct VI support in future operations, activities, and missions to meet client requirements.
  • Evaluate VI received against CCMD requirements established during the planning phase and disseminate lessons learned to PA/VI/COMCAM planners and forces.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative processes to conduct quality control and quality assurance to evaluate and report mission effectiveness.
  • Work within the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) platform to process and track VI to facilitate timely and accurate distribution of VI content supporting established themes and messages
  • Serve as subject matter expert arranging and leading VI training.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-12 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Using visual information (VI) tactics, techniques, and procedures to perform planning, liaison, guidance, and coordination of imagery plans and policy;
  • Ensure documentation of military operations and exercises in support of the National Defense Strategy;
  • Participated in a broad range of military operations and joint operational planning using VI and Combat Camera.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

This position is considered mission-essential and is subject to recall during off-shift hours twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.

Must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance. Failure to obtain or retain a TS security clearance will result in termination of employment.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test screening and periodic random drug testing.

Must be able to perform temporary duty travel assignments to both CONUS and OCONUS locations on public or military transportation.
