Summary

The incumbent will serve as an Architect on the Department of Justice Project Management Team and be responsible for designated major building projects.

Responsibilities

  • Applies specialized technical knowledge of professional architecture and scientific concepts, methods, and procedures to analyze and define the requirements of multi-phase projects.
  • Consults with management and planning personnel in preparing requirements and criteria for complex or high value projects for construction or modification of facilities.
  • Performs architectural facility or structures design work using a CADD system to prepare necessary drawings, layouts and specifications.
  • Guides and evaluates contractor efforts and assesses technical progress in relation to the established schedule and resources allotted.
  • Reviews plans, specifications, and cost estimates for technical adequacy.
  • Performs varied and complex project management duties in conjunction with coordinating project teams and making decisions that are controversial and precedent setting.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: You must have:
A. a degree in architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings.

License Requirement: You must have a license to practice Architecture in the United States.

In addition, for the GS-13: you must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to at least the GS-12 level or pay band in the Federal service) that includes the following: 1) applying principles and theories of architectural design to the design and construction or improvement of buildings; and 2) developing and analyzing requirements and design criteria for facilities.

In addition, for the GS-12: you must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to at least the GS-11 level or pay band in the Federal service) that includes the following: 1) applying principles and theories of architectural design to the design of buildings; and 2) analyzing requirements and design criteria for facilities.
