Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in the Director for Surgery, Ophthalmology Clinic. The position will mainly be held at our front desks, Meadows Pavilion, 2nd Floor, 3rd and 4th desks. While the majority of clerical duties will be sitting at the front, one will have to move throughout the clinic retrieving files from the file room and interacting with staff throughout the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and carry out assignments to include efficient front desk and data quality management to ensure smooth operation of clinical services.
  • Adjust times of appointments based on changes in provider's schedule and/or shift patients to other clinic providers in case of unexpected absense.
  • Read and interpret the referring consults, doctors' notes and/or drug treatment protocol in order to select and schedule the appropriate tests.
  • Utilize an in-depth knowledge of the mission and functions of the clinic to prepare reports based upon the requirements specified and the intended use of the data or report.
  • Oversee and follow up on tests ordered and patient referrals, to ensure that the results are receive, recorded, and properly filed and maintained in accordance with standard quality assurance procedures.

  • This position requires a Pre-Employment Physical to be able to carry up to 25 pounds.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a Tier 3 (T3) security investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes inputting medical data into an automated healthcare system, managing patient appointments, monitoring clinic schedules, and screening/reviewing patient documents for accuracy and completion.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
