Summary

The Office of Inspector General (OIG), works within the U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to promote efficiency and effectiveness, and prevent or stop waste, fraud and abuse in departmental programs. We do this through audits and investigations. OIG also consults with the Congress about programs in progress and proposed new laws and regulations. The Inspector General Act of 1978 gives the Office of Inspector General autonomy to do its work without interference.

Responsibilities

Provides consultative and advisory services in human resources programs but not limited to: disciplinary and adverse actions, telework and leave administration, reasonable accommodations, performance management, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), performance management, Civility, Diversity, and Inclusion, workers compensation, workplace disputes, and administrative grievances, etc.

Applies employee relations principles, practices, legal and regulatory requirements, and analytical skills sufficient to advise management about appropriate corrective techniques that are responsive to a range of conduct and performance problems.

Writes operational guidelines which interpret and implement regulations related to various human resources management programs.

Conducts briefings and training sessions for managers and employees on human resources issues as required. Provides suggestions to management regarding appropriate training for managers/supervisors.

Handles projects involving data collection, researching, and analyzing background information including human resources policies, regulations, and procedures and identifying and evaluating alternative courses of action.

Occasional travel - Occasional travel may be required to OIG regional offices.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 in the Federal Service. Examples of such experience may include; providing managers with interpretations of employee relations procedures, practices, policies, and guidelines when the issues involved are new, highly controversial, precedent setting and/or involve more than one area of Human Resources policy.
