Serves as the Supervisory Managing Editor (Internet) for the Latin America Division. Incumbent has overall responsibility for developing digital strategy for the Language Services within the Division, which includes, conceiving and directing the development and production of content for digital platforms.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Incumbent has editorial responsibility for directing the development and production of complex content for digital platforms.
  • Leads and supervises a team of digital writers, reporters, multimedia producers, social media producers, and digital staff within the Latin America Division that create integrated, balanced and targeted content to grow audience on both web and mobile platforms. Leads team in the use of social media as a reporting tool. Uses background in journalism to coach on sound practices and proper place of user generated content for all platforms.
  • Monitors and guides group discussions on social platforms ensuing a vigorous conversation under VOA's banner.
  • Oversees the creation and management of modern and innovative digital content and is an expert on the latest innovations and story telling techniques as applicable.
  • Establishes relationships and works in conjunction with VOA's Latin America Division digital media partners.
  • Incumbent has expertise in the use of content management systems.
  • Acts as an expert on social media and is a catalyst for creating new ways to use digital platforms to carry out the organizations mission and goals. Makes recommendations to management that are specific, measurable and able to reach specific audience goals.
  • Oversees content marketing efforts by setting budgets, choosing appropriate platforms and creating campaigns. Results must be measurable.
  • Plans and formulates short-term and long-term digital strategy with Division Managers, Editors, colleagues and subordinate staff to assure that digital programming, formats and individual segments exemplify the highest professional broadcast Internet standards. Guides Division and Service managers on external digital skills and training requirements.
  • As appropriate serve as project leader on digital initiatives.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to this line of work AND fluency in both Spanish and English languages.

Specialized Experience: is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such specialized experience includes, knowledge of journalism and digital publishing principles and methods; knowledge of multi-media software systems related to digital publishing, audio and graphic editing, and digital development knowledge of domestic and international news events, developments and affairs, and worldview of politics and economics; knowledge of digital media trends in the region, broad knowledge of management principles including skills to lead teams and motivate staff into achieving the maximum possible productivity and creativity.
