Summary

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) Office of Congressional Information and Publishing (CIP) is seeking a User Support Specialist to join its Publishing and Editorial Section (PUB).

Responsibilities

The User Support Specialist will provide publication support to CRS staff in using its customized Microsoft Word- and XML-based Authoring and Publishing (A&P) system to prepare CRS products (e.g., reports and memos); provide user and training support on using the A&P system and its Authoring tool as well as the features of related software applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; provide graphics support to modify and/or create charts, graphs, and other forms of visual communications; provide software testing and system documentation support in the maintenance and use of the A&P system and select native Microsoft software applications; and provide data conversion support to convert legacy documents to the Word A&P format. The selectee also will coordinate with other CRS colleagues to plan for the development of a next-generation, web-based integrated research information system to replace the current A&P platform.

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustment for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position.

The tour of duty for this position is full-time.

The incumbent of this position will work a fixed schedule and may be required to work 9am-5:30pm.

Qualifications

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

Ability to apply knowledge of information technology to provide software support and troubleshoot problems.**

Ability to apply publications formatting and design specifications.**

Ability to develop and conduct software training programs and write technical support documentation.**

Ability to focus on the customer.**

Ability to conduct systems analysis and testing.
