The Council of Korean Americans (CKA) seeks a full-time Development Director to lead our organization's fundraising efforts. This person will implement CKA's national development strategy to identify, cultivate and solicit donors and prospects, forge partnerships with corporations and foundations, as well as work with the Board of Directors and CKA Members to advance CKA's mission of advancing Korean American leadership. The Development Director will be responsible for leading CKA's primary fundraising activities, including our major gifts program, annual fund, and special events, in close coordination with the Executive Director and the Board Committee on Development. Applicants do not have to speak Korean or be based in Washington, DC. This is a unique opportunity to help strengthen Korean American and Asian American visibility and influence in the United States by engaging donors who are committed to creating change. Responsibilities Implementing CKA's annual fundraising planDeveloping and maintaining ongoing relationships with major donorsIdentifying, cultivating and engaging prospective donors and prospectsOverseeing our grants program, including corporate and foundation proposals and reportingDirecting our annual fund program, including mailings and digital outreachAs part of the senior leadership of CKA, advising the Executive Director on organizational strategy and priority setting as it pertains to fundraisingManaging all aspects of CKA's special events, including public conferences and cultivation events around the countryServing as staff liaison to CKA's Development CommitteeOverseeing our fund database and gift tracking systems Qualifications The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of progressively responsible development experience with a proven fundraising track record; experience developing and maintaining productive working relationships with board members and donors; familiarity with donor databases; and be a strong email, phone, and in-person communicator. S/he must be able to prioritize projects and tasks effectively, work independently as well as collaboratively, take initiative, demonstrate resourcefulness, and respond flexibly to changing demands in a dynamic work environment. The ideal candidate will have a chance to work with leaders from various sectors and from around the country and be a part of strengthening the Korean American community. As part of a small but growing staff team, s/he will be an active contributor to the strategic direction and vision of CKA. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in a related fieldAt least seven years of development or related experience Ability to travel and work on weekends and evenings a mustExperience in donor relations, plus familiarity with customer/donor relationship management software Skills and Commitment Excellent communication skills, including writing and speakingExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate effectively to senior professionalsMust be organized, detail-oriented, and have the ability to work in team settings as well as individuallyMust be able to juggle multiple projects, prioritize activities, and meet deadlinesMust be willing to travel several times per year Compensation Commensurate with experience. Minimum salary of $90,000 plus two weeks of paid vacation, all federal holidays, full health/dental/vision insurance coverage, match on company-sponsored retirement plan, and commuting benefits will be provided to the successful candidate having at least 7 years of progressively responsible development experience.
