This Maintenance Mechanic position is part of the R5-Patuxent Research Refuge located in Laurel, Maryland.
This is a full-time term position not-to-exceed one year and one day and which may be extended for an additional 3 years without further advertisement.

Responsibilities
As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair work on the Refuge; your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Maintenance and repair work of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures & utilities on the refuge.
Install, modify, repair, and maintain new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment. Works from as-built and engineering drawings, manufacture's wiring diagrams, and repair manuals.
Routine maintenance and repair of trailers, farm implements and other non-motorized equipment; work may consist of replacing worn parts including hydraulic and electrical components as well as welding to maintain structural integrity.
Mix and apply herbicides to the facilities and grounds.
Apply a variety of electric, gas, or other manual welding processes or methods to carry out standard welding operations such as repairing, modification, fabrication, or rebuilding of various types of metal, alloy and equipment parts.
Travel Required
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position to attend training and to perform field work.

Duties of this position include: maintenance and construction tasks; repair of mechanical vehicles, tools, heating and ventilation systems, plumbing systems and electrical systems; construction and finish carpentry; operation of trucks and heavy equipment; the use and operation of common hand and power tools and measuring devices of the carpentry and plumbing trades used to perform maintenance tasks; construction and repair; operation and repair of trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment.
Screen-out Factor:
This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain an unrestricted Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for the duration of appointment. A copy of your license must be uploaded with your resume or you will not be given further consideration.
Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration.
