About the Position: This is a permanent GS-5 security guard position with the Physical Security branch of the Directorate of Emergency Services located at Fort Lee. Currently, Fort Lee is offering an advance in hire rate of a step 3 $36,676.00 for all new to government security guard positions and those with a 90 day or greater break in service as a hiring incentive.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) registrar operations in order to enroll personnel into the system for vetting and printing of visitor passes/badges.
  • Verifies personnel credentials, prints visitor passes and/or badges, creates and edits card holder records and runs card and pass access reports.
  • Controls, prepares, issues identification badges, cards, and passes that allow access of civilian, military, contractor personnel, and visitors on to the installation.
  • Conduct vehicle searches/inspections (to include cargo areas, engine compartments and under carriages), in accordance with standing operating procedures.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable T-3 level personal background investigation.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability).
  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment drug test and then annually through random testing thereafter.
  • Must meet requirements under 18 USC 922(g)(9) (The Lautenberg Amendment); and sign the DD Form 2760 (Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition).
  • "May" be subject to a two year probationary period unless I have previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Position requires rotating shift work which may include fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment.
  • Must successfully pass entry level and annual re-certification of physical fitness/ability test.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • Must successfully complete the security guard training program.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Must maintain requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56, The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Position requires wearing of prescribed uniform.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: responding to incidents; control access to a facility after hours and on week-ends; search and escort various types of supply and delivery vehicles; perform security patrol and traffic control duties and operate radios to pass and receive information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone. No substitution of education for experience is permitted.
