Summary

Unpaid internships with OPIC are offered year round in Washington, D.C., and can last from 12 weeks to 12 months. Duties vary based on the department and/or office in which the intern is placed. OPIC's Internship Program offers valuable experience that contributes to educational and professional growth, and may be applied in any future employment endeavor, including federal, state and local governments or in the private sector.

Responsibilities

Interns will:

• Identify, collect, and analyze relevant information concerning the potential impacts of proposed projects on workers and affected communities near projects;
• Review various forms of project-level social policies and providing gap analyses between corresponding national and international legal and regulatory frameworks;
• Assess host country laws and practices related to social governance and monitoring social-related news, trends, and events;
• Identify recommendations to reach compliance with international best practices for social risk identification, management and monitoring; and
• Perform other related tasks as assigned. Interns may attend meetings at other U.S. government or development finance agencies.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

• US Citizenship is required
• Must be currently enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university
• Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation
• Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt

Qualifications

Must be a U.S. citizen currently enrolled in a full- or part-time accredited advanced degree program (e.g. Master's, Juris Doctor, Ph.D.) in good academic standing, concentrating in: International Relations/Affairs/Development/Business/Finance/Trade, Global Policy, Human Rights, Anthropology, Social Impact, Corporate Social Responsibility, International/Labor/Employment Law, Public Policy, Diplomacy, International Project Finance, Political Science, Sociology, or other related field.

Knowledge of the International Finance Corporation Performance Standards and other international development, social assessment, human rights, or labor initiatives is a plus.

Candidates should also have strong analytical abilities; verbal and written communication skills; internet and library-based research skills; computer proficiency; and multitasking capabilities.

Education

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
