Unpaid internships with OPIC are offered year round in Washington, D.C., and can last from 12 weeks to 12 months. Duties vary based on the department and/or office in which the intern is placed. OPIC's Internship Program offers valuable experience that contributes to educational and professional growth, and may be applied in any future employment endeavor, including federal, state and local governments or in the private sector.

Responsibilities

As an Environmental Impact Analysis Intern with OIP, you will:
  • Identify, collect and provide in-depth analyses of the potential environmental and social impacts of international projects in developing nations and markets under consideration for OPIC support in the areas of debt finance, insurance or equity finance using international guidelines and standards. Projects include a wide range of industries, such as renewable energy, manufacturing, construction and financial intermediaries.
  • Assess potential environmental and social impacts of projects and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are included in a project's environmental and social action plan;
  • Assist in making recommendations to OPIC management regarding project eligibility and conditionality on environmental and social grounds, and specify environmental and social conditions of default to be included in OPIC finance, insurance and investment fund agreements; and
  • Conduct research on important environmental and social policy issues related to emerging technologies, environmental variability and social outcomes.

Conditions of Employment

  • US Citizenship is required
  • Must be currently enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university
  • Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation
  • Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt


Qualifications

Applicants must be enrolled part-time or full-time in an accredited institution pursuing an advanced (Graduate Level) degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Policy, Environmental Law and Policy, Energy Law, Natural Resources, Physics, Ecology, Biology, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Atmospheric Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a related field. Successful completion of a background investigation is also required.

Education
