Product Design Engineer CREATIVE Sign Systems is seeking an energetic and highly motivated product developer who thrives in thinking outside of the box and is able to be both analytical and creative. You will be charged with developing designs and redesigns of new and existing products to complement and enhance our product offerings and continually improve quality. You will be responsible for minimizing production costs and sustaining a competitive advantage in the signage and wayfinding industry. Work closely with marking/sales and production on new product concepts, features and/or special design requests. Independent judgment must be exercised frequently. Assignments are received in the form of results expected. You will have considerable freedom to decide work priorities and procedures to be followed. CREATIVE is an established 50-year-old nationwide design-build architectural signage firm that focuses on wayfinding design. Core Focus: Develop new product designs and redesigns in coordination with sales, marketing and manufacturing functions. Lead product related research and identify product gaps and collaborate to facilitate new products. Develop technical documents related to new or changed designs. Oversee the transition from design into production, including any necessary testing and training required for implementing new or changed designs. Evaluate material selection, cost analysis, and vendors as required to implement new designs. Oversee the prototyping and testing of new designs and functions, including the interpretation of test results. May be required to set up and run tests. Provide technical consultation to sales and marketing personnel. Maintain product requirements, technical and functional documentations for reference purposes. Maintain close contact with the production floor. Listen to the problems and ideas. Prioritize and pursue the most important concerns. Analyze and troubleshoot product issues in a timely fashion. Participate in value engineering projects on an ongoing basis to continually improve designs and processes. Assist with costing and pricing of all products. Maintain expert knowledge of all company products. Track all aspects of the product life cycle, ie, sales performance, cost of goods, etc. Maintain Standard Practices for manufacturing of products. Monitor quality of products and processes and provide feedback to relevant departments. Qualifications & Ideal Characteristics: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field (mechanical, etc.) 3 years Product Design experience- manufacturing environment preferred. Working knowledge of materials (ex. aluminum, acrylic, vinyl), components, and fabrication processes and construction principles. Project management including establishing and maintaining project timelines with minimum direct supervision. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Proficiency with a variety of computer programs. Love thinking outside of the box and solving problems through design. Expert ability to sketch or to communicate design ideas via illustrator or similar design tool.
