Summary

Joining the Secret Service, Office of Human Resources, Security Management Division will allow you to play an integral role performing the full range of personnel security administration for Uniformed Division, Special Agent and Administrative, Professional and Technical applicants and employees at the United States Secret Service. This Personnel Security Specialist position starts at a salary of $99,172 (GS-13 step 1), with potential to $128,920 (GS-13 step 10).

Responsibilities

The selectee will serve as a Personnel Security Specialist in the Office of Human Resources, Security Management Division. Typical work assignments include:
  • Providing expert advice, guidance and instruction to others in resolving complex personnel security issues; and researching, analyzing and evaluating personnel security administrative and investigative matters.
  • Overseeing the compilation, analyzing and evaluating of background investigative data on each applicant and employee; and preparing a synopsis of pertinent information including a comprehensive recommendation pursuant to the individual's suitability for employment or retention of a security clearance.
  • Providing authoritative interpretations, advice and guidance concerning the personnel security program areas; and coordinating the development and maintenance of contacts.

Qualifications

GS-13: You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $99,172) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as: developing policies, procedures and instructions; providing advice and guidance concerning personnel security investigations; evaluating program goals, objectives and requirements; and overseeing the background investigative data on applicants, employees and/or contractors.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience)Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. Qualifications Must Be Met: The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
