Summary

The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC ) is established to enable the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), (OSD), and other DoD Components, to introduce new capabilities and effectively experiment with new operational concepts in support of DoD's warfighting missions with the goal of accelerating the delivery of AI enabled capabilities, scaling the Department-wide impact of AI, and synchronizing DoD AI activities to expand Joint Force advantages.

Responsibilities

  • Captures and formulates final articulation of user needs that will define the broader user experience by gathering and incorporating end-user feedback from user interviews, usability tests, surveys, data analysis, and similar methods.
  • Translates/transforms this information into actionable user interface requirements and workflows. Designs and prototypes specific AI or ML solutions. Understands user needs, behaviors, and motivations.
  • Supports technical activities of the end users identifying mission goals, desired metrics, data standards and user workflows.
  • Works with National Mission Initiative (NMI) teams to define and prioritize systems requests, define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support end user goals.
  • Coordinates technical requirements for the capability design, with an emphasis on interface definition with government and commercial stakeholders and organizations to evolve requirements.

Qualifications

This position has a basic requirement:
For the GG-1550 Computer Scientist:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

For theGG-0854 Computer Engineer:

Engineering Degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Qualifying Experience:

For the GG-14 position, you must have applicable experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience may have been acquired in any Federal, Military, or Private sector but clearly demonstrates past experience to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by performing user studies, analyses and evaluations of information software plans, programs, projects, policies, and procedures as they relate to capabilities that include Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

There is no substitution of education for experience at this grade level.

  • This position is a DoD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1599f.
