Summary

You will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN in the PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.

Responsibilities

• You will interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications, or sketches to complete assigned high voltage repairs.
• You will install utility poles and replace cross arms in accordance with specified phasing, series or parallel hook-up requirements.
• You will troubleshoot primary overhead and underground high voltage electrical distribution lines to determine required repairs.
• You will perform inspections to determine the condition of the electrical utility system.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You may be required to obtain a valid state commercial driver's license.
• Work at a job site or location other than a permanently assigned location.

The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN without more than normal supervision including: 1) Following instructions to repair high voltage electrical power-generating and distribution equipment (e.g., generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading circuit drawing and diagrams to identify electrical problems; 3) Using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on energized high voltage electrical systems.).

Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position. Scheduled overtime is also required of employees.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Exerts moderately heavy physical effort. Works aloft on poles, at ground level, in trenches and manholes. Required to walk, climb, crawl, kneel, stoop, bend, push, and pull. Works from ladders and scaffolds. Must have the ability to distinguish color and shades of color. At times, works in awkward positions and restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs, and body are needed to perform tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works outside most of the time, both above and below ground, in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment. Subject to high voltage shocks and burns.
