The Community, State and National Affairs (CSNA) team is a key contributor to AARP's mission of social change for Americans 50+ and their families. CSNA drives social change through our advocacy work by giving our members a voice-at the federal, state, local levels and community levels-on issues important to them such as Financial Resilience, Health Security, and Personal Fulfillment.

With a network of 53 offices in each state, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, we live where we work. This allows us to do what we do best...meet the people and directly engage in our communities to find out what they need and want, enabling us to educate our members with programs and information that is relevant to them.

Our state offices work hand-in-glove with AARP's national office in Washington, DC. This reach-from community to state to federal - enables CSNA to better empower people 50+ to enjoy the way they live and work today, while reaching their goals for tomorrow...their life - their way.

Summary

Are you a student with a social mission drive? Do you want to help protect our nation's older population to stay safe from scams and fraud? Then Team Fraud Prevention is looking for you! Our team is focused on educating the public on scams and fraud to help them avoid becoming victims. Our co-team, Team Victim Support, is there to help people who have been targeted or victimized by a scam or fraud. We are a small and nimble team with a range of needs that we'd love your help with.

Responsibilities

As an Intern, you will apply strategic, analytical and creative thinking to help with our core areas of internal and external communications, internal and external partnerships, and state relations (we have offices in all 53 states and territories that all engage in our "Fraud Watch Network").

You'll manage our fraud scam tracking map, help with our biweekly "Watchdog Alerts" that we send by email and text, and help with "promotional blitzes" where we focus on a specific type of scam and get the word out about it. You'll get to attend industry events around town, and engage in internal and external meetings. As a side project, you'll manage a Social Security Question and Answer tool, to help get our members' questions about Social Security answered by our expert. You will learn a lot about this important program!

Requirements

Prospective intern must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post doctorate students.

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
