Responsibilities

  • Work on a team and assists in performing audits of small defined-pension plans.
  • Assist in the administrative tasks related to the field audit and documenting the preparation for field audits.
  • Assist higher-level Auditors in the evaluation of assets to ensure that procedures are adequately and accurately documented in work papers.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

You may qualify for this position based on education, specialized experience, or a combination of both.

Education:

GS-07: You may qualify for this position if you possess one year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.

GS-09: You may qualify for this position if you possess two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.

Specialized Experience:

GS-07: At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the private sector reviewing and analyzing audit or accounting data for accuracy or compliance with accounting or auditing standards. Examples may include: general ledgers, bank statements, audit findings, or supporting audit documentation.

GS-09: At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the private sector creating written reports of audit findings. Examples may include: narrative reports, statistical data reports, and reports of recommendations.

Combination of Education and Experience: Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECENT GRADUATES PROGRAM? Any individual who completed all requirements for an associate, bachelor, master, professional, or doctorate degree from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years meets the basic requirement to apply for the Recent Graduate Program;

-OR-

Any veteran released or discharged from active duty within the previous two years but not more that six years following completion of applicable degree.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional,;philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work builds critical competencies, knowledge, and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.")

OR

Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
  • Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
  • A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
  • Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.

    You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

    Procedures to category rating are being used for this position. If you meet the basic qualification requirements, we will further evaluate your resume and transcripts to determine the quality and extent to which your background (experience, education, training, etc.) relates to the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • knowledge of the concepts, principles and methods of auditing and accounting
  • knowledge of software applications used in auditing or accounting work
  • skill in applying conventional procedures and practices associated with audits

  • GS-09:
  • knowledge of the concepts, principles and methods of auditing and accounting
  • skill in applying auditing or accounting procedures to the review of data
  • skill in written communication

  • Based on that evaluation, we will place you in one of the following categories- 1) Gold; 2) Silver; 3) Bronze.
    • Gold- highly proficient regarding the knowledge, skills, and abilities(KSAs) related to the position.
    • Silver- competent regarding the knowledge, skills, and abilities(KSAs) related to the position.
    • Bronze- possessing only the minimum qualifications required for this position.

    If, after your application has been rated by the Subject Matter Expert, you are found to meet none of the KSAS listed above, you will be placed in the Bronze category. If your resume does not support the answers you gave on the assessment questionnaire, you may be rated NOT QUALIFIED or you may be placed in a lower category

    This assessment method does not add veterans' preference points but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category.

    How veterans' preference is applied- All applicants who are eligible for veterans' preference (based on the documents submitted) will receive preference over non-veterans.
