Responsibilities

Serves as a Cyber Threat Intelligence Specialist in FAA's Special Activities and Law Enforcement Support Division (AXE-300) located in the Office of National Security and Incident Response in a Sensitive Compartmented Intelligence Facility (SCIF). The incumbent performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments under minimal direction of the manager.

He/she serves as a subject-matter expert and applies experience and comprehensive intelligence knowledge to solve complex problems and develop improved processes or systems. Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Gathers intelligence/information from multiple sources, to include the intelligence community, regarding threats from cyber intrusion/attack by entities attempting to affect the aviation industry; analyzes cyber intelligence reporting for threats and trends involving civil aerospace, aviation, and transportation systems.
  • Conducts intelligence research, analysis, and intelligence production to support FAA leadership and provide network defenders with actionable intelligence to protect FAA networks from potential cyber intrusions, or help identify cyber actors who have already gained access to FAA networks.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison relationships with relevant cyber and intelligence entities throughout the intelligence community, federal law enforcement, DoD as well as industry and international partners through ongoing interaction, collaboration, and information sharing.
  • Represents the FAA at relevant internal and interagency conferences, meetings, and committees; and with industry and foreign partners, associated with cyber threat intrusions in support of National Security Council requirements.
  • Supports FAA development, analysis, and review of new cyber policies and strategies involving cyber threats affecting FAA operations and the National Airspace System.
  • Possesses knowledge of the aviation industry to enable targeted intelligence collection to support intelligence reporting of threats to the aviation industry.
  • Supports review of internal FAA vulnerability and risk assessments to recommend mitigations and countermeasures to address vulnerabilities and risks to civil aviation and the NAS.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate at least one year (52 weeks) of SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE equivalent to the next lower grade/pay band (FG/GS-13/FV-I) that is typically related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as experience performing intelligence analysis and reporting on current intelligence threats from cyber actors.
