Summary

The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC ) is established to enable the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), (OSD), and other DoD Components, to introduce new capabilities and effectively experiment with new operational concepts in support of DoD's warfighting missions with the goal of accelerating the delivery of AI enabled capabilities, scaling the Department-wide impact of AI, and synchronizing DoD AI activities to expand Joint Force advantages.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates long-range policies and develops and implements strategies and management guidelines related to technical standards and AI ethics policy.
  • Leads periodic program reviews to develop an overall assessment of program progress and success that reflects the consolidated opinion of multiple experts.
  • Develops recommendations for technical policy issuances pertaining to best practices for AI deployment.
  • Participates in current and long-range planning meetings to ensure that goals and objectives are fully and effectively related to the overall JAIC and DoD strategy.
  • Identifies aspects of current scientific and industry practices that fail to meet the complex test and evaluation challenges of national security programs and work to improve those practices.

Basic Requirement for Computer Engineer, GG-0854-14:


Degree: Engineering.To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist, GG1550-14:
Bachelor's degree in computer science OR bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
Qualifying Experience:
For the GG-14 position, you must have applicable experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience may have been acquired in any Federal, Military, or Private sector but clearly demonstrates past experience to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by developing and publishing policies to govern technical standards in the areas of data management, AI ethics and safety, security, and assurance, test and evaluation and verification and validation of algorithms.

There is no substitution of education for experience at this grade level.

  • This position is a DoD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1599f.

A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
