Responsibilities

  • You will install, repair, troubleshoot, modify, load and test new and existing electrical systems, fixtures, controls and equipment, including secondary distribution lines.
  • You will work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals.
  • You will make secondary connections with power lines.
  • You will be responsible for the operation, adjustment and repair of master fire alarm boxes, associated underground cables, master circuits, vocal systems, ticker circuits, mechanical registers, time and date stamps, and back-up recording systems.
  • You will install, adjust and repair alarm auxiliaries, fire bells, heat detectors, sprinkler switches, smoke detectors, master circuits and auxiliary circuits.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of an Electrician without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by performing the following duties: 1) Applying electrical principles, practices, and standards to perform the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and routine repairs of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment including secondary distribution lines; 2) Applying electronic theory and principles to perform maintenance and provide assistance for repairs on master fire alarm systems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

A 40 hour work week is typical of this position.

May be assigned to perform tasks in non-trade related field as an assistant/helper as workload requires.

May be required to serve as an on-call duty mechanic on a rotational basis. An on-call duty mechanic is required to carry a duty cell phone and must remain available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within two hours.

May be designated as ALPHA/Essential personnel and required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before, during and/or after special emergency situations, such as, but not limited to, destructive weather, disasters or periods of an increased security threat.

May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends as needed.

Must be able to work at a rapid pace for a short period of time. Occasionally required to perform work by stooping, bending and reaching while in cramped and uncomfortable positions and by walking, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds to perform work at various heights.

Some work is performed outside and may require exposure to prevailing weather conditions. Working conditions in this position vary with a portion performed in relatively pleasant surroundings and a portion performed on rooftops, in equipment rooms, under buildings and in confined spaces. Subject to perform work in areas with high noise levels where ear protection is required. Working in very hot and cold environments, poorly ventilated and lighted areas is occasionally required and in some instances work in these conditions is for the duration of the shift. You may be exposed to fumes, dust, dirt, grease and oil, and are subject to the possibility of scrapes, cuts, bruises, contusions, burns, electric shock and eye hazards.
