This Position is located in the office of The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and screen proposed projects for their interest and appropriateness for Extramural grant programs at NCCIH.
  • Provide scientific support in planning, coordination, evaluation and communication of research to internal and external stakeholders, including planning and implementing workshops and conferences.
  • Conceive, design and perform detailed analysis of scientific and/or administrative factors affecting research program priorities and performance in the areas of specialty.
  • Serve as Office or Institute/Center (IC) representative on committees and working groups focusing on areas of programmatic expertise.
  • Evaluate grant program supported by NCCIH by tracking applications, success rates, activities and spending of grant recipients to inform future funding and policy decisions.
  • Prepare and make oral presentations to NCCIH leadership and staff, NIH staff and the extramural community.
  • Provide guidance to grantees on their research objectives, funding opportunity requirements, compliance documentation and safety monitoring plans
  • Work with Program and Division/Office Directors to ensure that tasks relevant to the scientific administration of assigned grants are performed accurately and in a timely fashion.

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirement:
  • Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
To qualify at the GS-11 level:
  • Have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field; OR
  • You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal Government performing the following types of tasks: coordinating proposed biomedical research projects; assisting in developing and revising reports relevant to biomedical research; and organizing information and presenting findings involving medical and scientific subjects; OR
  • Have a combination of graduate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
To qualify at the GS-12 level:
  • You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Government performing the following types of tasks: coordinating, evaluating and/or conducting research projects in complementary or integrative health or related fields; (i.e. pain management, substance abuse, integrative health, etc); providing guidance to grantees on funding opportunities and research objectives; participating in clinical trials of biomedical research that address behavioral interventions; analyzing biomedical research to assess effectiveness of research strategies; analyzing alternatives and recommending solutions to complex problems affecting conduct of research studies; and developing scientific material for presentations.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
